Private Label vs. Contract Manufacturing

Buyer's guide · Updated: July 2026 · Hema İçecek Ltd. Şti., İzmir/Türkiye
TL;DR — In private label, the factory's proven recipe is produced under your brand — fastest route to market. In contract manufacturing (fason), the factory produces your own recipe for you — full control over the formula. Many manufacturers, including Hema İçecek, offer both, plus a third option: distributing the factory's own brands, which has no private-label minimum and allows mixed containers.

When private label is the right choice

You want your own brand on the shelf quickly, without inventing a formula. The factory's tested recipe (for example a classic 150 mg/L caffeine, 800 mg/L taurine energy drink) is filled into cans printed with your design. Taste, aroma and intensity can still be tuned to your market. This is the standard route for supermarket chains and importers in the Gulf, Europe and Africa.

When contract manufacturing is the right choice

You already have a formula — or want one nobody else has. The manufacturer's R&D lab develops and scales your recipe, then produces it exclusively for you. Development and sampling add some lead time, but the formula is yours.

The overlooked third option: start with the factory's own brands

If you are testing a new market, importing the factory's existing brands is the lowest-risk start: no private-label minimum, and different products can be mixed in one 40ft container. Hema İçecek's portfolio of 18 products — Power Jaguar, Double Boom, Jaws, Faster (energy), Dream Can (sugar-free), Black Cola, Kara Kola, Yellow Cola — is available this way. Once demand is proven, switching to your own label is straightforward.

Checklist before you sign

Whichever model you choose, confirm: certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP, Halal), real MOQ and container loads, production lead time (at Hema: ~4-6 weeks after order confirmation and printed-can supply), shelf life (24 months), trade terms (EXW/FOB/CIF) and whether the factory supports can/label design.
