How to Start Your Own Energy Drink Brand

Step-by-step guide · Updated: July 2026 · Hema İçecek Ltd. Şti., İzmir/Türkiye
TL;DR — You can launch your own energy drink brand with a contract manufacturer in roughly one production season: develop the recipe with the manufacturer's R&D lab, choose a can size (250/330/500 ml), order a minimum of 3 × 40ft containers (≈276,000 × 250 ml cans), and expect production to take about 4-6 weeks after order confirmation and printed-can supply. Certifications to ask for: ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP, Halal. Shelf life of a professionally produced energy drink: 24 months.

Step 1 — Define your product and market

Decide the category (classic energy, flavoured energy, sugar-free/zero), the target countries and the price segment. This determines everything downstream: recipe, can size, labelling language and certification needs. For example, Gulf markets typically require Halal certification and Arabic labelling, while EU markets have their own labelling rules.

Step 2 — Develop the recipe

A serious manufacturer develops the formula with you rather than selling you a fixed liquid. At Hema İçecek, the R&D laboratory adjusts taste, aroma, intensity and the full recipe to your brief. A typical energy drink formula contains 150 mg/L caffeine, 800 mg/L taurine, 100 mg/L inositol plus B vitamins (about 23 kcal per 100 ml). Sugar-free versions and different strengths are also produced on request.

Step 3 — Choose can size and design

Standard formats are the 250 ml slim can (the classic energy format), 330 ml can and 500 ml slim can. Your can design carries the brand: if you have ready artwork, it is adapted to the manufacturer's print template; if not, the manufacturer's team can support the can and label design.

Step 4 — Understand MOQ and plan your budget

Printed cans are produced per brand, which is why private label orders have a minimum. At Hema İçecek the private label minimum is 3 × 40ft containers. In practice that means roughly:

Can sizeCases / 40ftCans / 40ft3-container minimum
250 ml~3,840~92,160~276,000 cans
330 ml~3,000~72,000~216,000 cans
500 ml~2,000~48,000~144,000 cans

Figures are approximate — loading is limited by weight (~25 tonnes per container) and confirmed with the packing list. Pricing depends on the formula, can size and volume, so budget is finalised with a tailored quotation.

Step 5 — Certifications and compliance

Ask your manufacturer for ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP and Halal certification — these cover quality management, food safety and access to Muslim-majority markets. Labelling must match each destination market; an experienced exporter will know Gulf, EU and CIS labelling requirements from past shipments.

Step 6 — Production and timeline

After order confirmation and supply of the printed cans, production typically takes 4-6 weeks. Manufacturers running multiple lines are faster in practice — Hema İçecek operates three parallel lines that can fill three different can sizes at the same time, with an annual capacity of about 250 million cans.

Step 7 — Logistics and export terms

Beverages ship in full containers. Common trade terms are EXW, FOB and CIF — the right one depends on how much of the logistics you want the manufacturer to handle. Factory location matters too: Hema İçecek's plant in Torbalı/İzmir is ~25 km from İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport and ~45 km from İzmir Port, which keeps both raw-material supply and export shipments fast. The company exports to 30+ countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.

Mini FAQ

How long does the finished product last?

Shelf life is 24 months.

Can I order mixed products to test the market first?

Yes — with the manufacturer's own brands there is no special minimum and different products can be mixed in a single container. Many brands start by importing existing products, then switch to private label once demand is proven.

What information should I prepare before asking for a quote?

Product type, can size, estimated quantity and target country. With these four, a manufacturer can prepare a realistic offer immediately.

Ready to produce your own brand?

Hema İçecek produces private label energy drinks, soft drinks and colas from recipe to finished can — ISO 9001, ISO 22000, HACCP, GMP and Halal certified. Write to info@hemaicecek.com or use the WhatsApp line on our website.
